This work is confidential, however I am able to share hard copies in interviews.
The current patient identification bands are not designed for the pediatric world. With kids fidgeting, biting, and having sensory issues, the level of compliance is not as high as needed to maintain CCHMC’s safety standards.

MY ROLE
As the Industrial Design Lead for this project, I was responsible for ideating and visualizing a variety of solutions for patient identification. By designing both low and high tech solutions, I was able to push for innovation while not compromising actionable development. My designs were tested by over 50 nurses, with further refinement leading to multiple concepts that were handed over to CCHMC for further development.
PROCESS
- Conducted multiple observation sessions across different units of the hospital, observing product, process, and interaction.
- Sketched and prototyped 100+ solutions, covering low and high tech options, focusing on innovative, future forward solutions.
- Co-created and further validated final directions by facilitating workshops for providers to gather input.
- Developed prototypes to be distributed for further development in partnership with CCHMC Innovation Ventures team.
