WAY-FINDING FOR ALL

Worked with Boeing and the University of Cincinnati’s Translational Research course to create innovative solutions surrounding travel way-finding.

BACKGROUND

Every year, The Boeing Company collaborates with The Live Well Collaborative and University of Cincinnati Master of Design program to conduct a Translational Research course, converting user insights into innovative concepts that Boeing uses to fuel innovation.

The Live Well powers this hybrid academic-professional partnership by connecting real world research and development with the classroom curriculum. My role was to coordinate primary and secondary research, help with concept ideation, and refine physical and digital models.

CHALLENGE

The focus of the project surrounded developing concepts that meet the way-finding needs of passengers with impairments. This included learning the needs of people with auditory, mobility, cognitive, and visual challenges, and developing concepts that can be implemented in Boeing cabins to alleviate difficulties that arise while traveling with a disability.

RESULTS

Uncovered accessibility related challenges and opportunity areas for both flight crew and passengers, while teaching students how to develop qualitative research skills such as interviews, journey maps, and heuristic analysis.

Ideated over 100 initial concepts addressing various accessibility challenges, collaborating with mentors from Boeing to narrow down into 7 final directions that align with the future of accessible aviation.
Created data visualizations, modeled and rendered concepts, and sketched storyboards to present to Boeing for IP review. Created presentations and co-creating activities to gather feedback while educating about translational research.

This work is confidential, however I am able to share hard copies in interviews.
