The Hoxworth Blood Center is an internationally recognized leader in transfusion medicine. The environment was designed as a flexible space that balances privacy for those in need of respite with areas for collaboration, education, and community engagement.
MY ROLE
I was the Industrial Design Lead on a multidisciplinary team of 4. By leveraging my background in interactive environments, I was able to analyze the Central Atrium within the Hoxworth Blood Center from an environmental and experiential perspective. I was responsible for conceptualizing how the space should be distributed for optimal engagement and visualizing it in an understandable manner, as well as aligning the needs of the stakeholders, the users, and the team.
PROCESS
- Conducted primary research through observation and interviews to define uses for space and identify opportunities for functional and cultural improvement.
- Ideated and visualized over 50 different concepts, created 3D renders, and acted as creative consultant to define environmental identity.
- Developed material boards, furniture selections, and established floor plans as a framework to inform further development.
- Defined a systemic approach with implementable strategies that fostered community engagement, health equity, and inclusivity.
