HOXWORTH CENTRAL SPATIAL DESIGN
The Hoxworth Blood Center has been facilitating blood donation for the local community since 1938, with multiple donation centers throughout Ohio and Kentucky. Hoxworth Central is the only center that collects donations, processes blood into product, and provides care for patients who need transfusion medicine.
CHALLENGE
The current atmosphere of Hoxworth Central is uninviting, cold, and empty, making it difficult to engage both donors and employees. Furthermore, the interior atrium is hard to navigate due to confusing structures and unclear hallways, dissuading donors and patients from returning.
The aim of the refreshed atrium is to create a comfortable, community-driven hub that can simultaneously act as a donor interaction area and as an employee well-being space.
RESULTS
1. Created multiple design artifacts, including user experience maps, a video rendering of the future space, and an FF&E spec book, for the client to refer back to as they continue developing the center.
2. Strategized short and long term ways for the space to be adjusted with existing furniture and materials to ensure ease of way-finding for donors and quicker employee-only access to important areas.
3. Established a working partnership with Hoxworth Blood Center to continue strategizing ways to ease donation, educate the community and develop a clear brand identity. Click here to see more work.
